When it comes to diseases or other medical conditions, medical experts are doing their best in researching for medical breakthroughs. These may be the latest medicine that people may use in treating their diseases, new physical therapy procedures that would help the effects of medicine, or any new classifications of the disease that the people should watch out for.

When it comes to arthritis, there are still a number of researches being done in order to know more about this condition. Here are three examples of researches done for arthritis.

There is a research about one symptom of psoriatic arthritis. This symptom is fatigue and researchers have found out that mostly women and those who are feeling pain are the ones who are presenting with the same symptom. This study was done by Dr. Dafna Gladman from the University of Toronto. She and her colleagues have studied 499 patients and found out that almost 50% of the people who have been studied were experiencing moderate fatigue while almost 30% were experiencing severe fatigue.

The next study is about the ability of gout medicine to lower down blood pressure. Gouty arthritis is known to be a kind of arthritis wherein you can see some lumps on the joints. This is caused by uric acid deposits or accumulation on the joints. Studies have shown that there is a correlation between hypertension and increased uric acid in the blood. This was the result when people who have taken high-sure diet for several weeks have also increased their blood pressure. In relation to this study, Richard Johnson and his colleagues presented that allopurinol, a medicine that lowers down uric acid in the blood can also help in lowering down hypertension. His study included people who are in their teens and preteens who are hypertensive for the past year. Although if the studies’ connection about high sugar diet and hypertension, authorities in the world of medicine would still require further studies before gout medicine can be recommended as anti-hypertensive medicine.

Finally, it has been known that obesity may cause osteoarthritis. This is because of the excessive weight that may tear the joints. However, a recent study on obese mice by the Duke University has found out that they do not have osteoarthritis. They stated that these mice do not have leptin or a hormone that is responsible in metabolism. This study is then suggestive that there could be chemical components responsible in developing osteoarthritis to humans as it could affect the bones and cartilages’ metabolism. This however would take deeper studies and more complex isolation of the exact chemical cause in humans.

These are only some of the studies done for arthritis these days. You will notice how vast these studies are in order to develop other means of treating people who are feeling too much pain because of their condition. Since arthritis have different types, it is certain that there are still going to be more research in the future for each type of arthritis to provide more information along with some prevention methods.
