Here is an amazing course in Yoga to stimulate your body with the fresh vitality and bubbling energy of youth. You may undertake the practice outlined in this course regardless of your age or physical background. You are not to be concerned with how "stiff' or "out of condition" you think you are or whether you will be "able to do" the Yoga techniques.

The reason you are going to practice Yoga is because you very probably are out of your peak physical condition and Yoga works out stiffness, tension, tightness, flabbiness and many other negative conditions which sap your energy and health and prevent you from living a full life. Concerning whether you will be able to do these exercises, I will tell you that I have never yet met a person who cannot do enough Yoga to experience great benefits at once. This is true of students 80 years of age and beyond as well as people of all ages who have allowed themselves to deteriorate into poor physical condition from lack of the proper physical activity.

Yoga is not 'exercise' in the ordinary sense of the word with strain, exertion, many repetitions and quick movements. In Yoga we conserve our energy, we should never experience any strain, only several repetitions are necessary and we do almost everything in slow-motion! The movements of Yoga are able to stimulate and relax every part of the body from the toes to the scalp and from the muscles and tendons inward to the deepest internal organs and glands. This is why "20 minutes of Yoga is worth hours of ordinary exercise."

If you are ill or have a history of illness and you are in doubt as to how any of these postures may apply to your personal condition, you must always consult your physician. He is the only person qualified to tell you the kind of - exercise you may undertake. My experience has been that physicians are generally eager to have their patients remain active and the mildness of the Yoga movements makes them particularly advantageous for those who want to keep fit and trim without strain and using the least amount of energy.

Let us see if we can catch a glimpse of this elusive thing called 'youth' so that we may know better what it is we are searching for.

When you speak about being 'young' or 'old' you are, usually not referring to a definite age in terms of years but rather to a state of body and mind. If you stop to think for a moment you will realize that how 'young' a person looks and feels has nothing to do with his actual age in years, for one man is 'youthful' at 75 while another is 'old' at 40. What is the difference between these two individuals? It is simple. There are obvious characteristics which enable us to tell almost at a glance if a person is young or old. The more characteristics of youth that a person has, the more 'youthful' he or she looks and feels and is. The youthful man who is 75 has retained the characteristics of youth. Consequently he is vibrant and alive. The man who is old at 40 has lost the characteristics of youth and has acquired many or all the symptoms of age. He therefore appears 'old'.
