Nine Proven Ways To Get Rid Of A Headache

Having a headache is one of the most annoying things in the world. When you get one you really have two options. You can either put up with it or take active steps to make it better. This article will look at 9 ways you can manage the pain to help get rid of your headache.

Here is a list of some things you can try next time you have a headache. Some of them will help the headache itself whilst some of the other ideas will just make you more comfortable.

1. Take some painkillers

The obvious first step is to take some painkillers. Always opt for a good brand and generally choose Asprin because it is good for your heart and blood as well as acting faster on the head pain.

However, I do not think painkillers are always the best option. The reason for this is that often your headache will have a simple cause and can be solved using other methods. The painkillers mask the pain, they don’t cure the cause.

2. Drink more water

One of the most common reasons we get headaches is because we are dehydrated. Drinking water constantly throughout the day is a good way to prevent and treat headaches. Try it next time you feel one coming on.

3. Relax

Stress is another big cause of headaches so you need to teach yourself to de-stress and relax. This might sound silly but not many people know how to relax when they are stressed. Take some deep breaths, slow down, get a cup of tea and don’t allow whatever is stressing you to get on top of you.

4. Stretch your neck

The neck holds a lot of tension and if you are a weight trainer you might have put it under some undue stress. Try stretching your neck out lightly and massging the tight spots. This might help the pain quite a bit.

5. Put a cold wet towel on your face

Sometimes in the summer I get so hot working out that I feel like it is the heat that causes my headaches. I like to wet a towel and lay down and close my eyes with the towel over my face. This really calms me down and seems to relax my whole body.

6. Get acupuncture

A friend of mine had been getting headaches all of her life. She tried every drug and medicine on the market but it wasn’t until she starting getting acununcture that the headaches finally went away. And they haven’t ever come back. If you have a problem with headaches it might be something that a Chinese doctor can sort out for you. It is cheap and works on many ailments so go and check it out.

7. Drink fruit juice

A lot of the time if you have been running around or doing something energetic you will be low on blood sugar. This can be a cause of headaches so it is a good idea to give your body a little bit of a healthy sugar hit with some natural fructose like you find in fruit juice.

8. Get away from the computer

Computer screens and tv screens and mobile phone screens will all give you headaches after a while. Turn the computer off for a few hours and go and do some other work. Meet with clients or whatever but give your eyes a rest.

9. Get more sleep

Quite often headaches are caused by a lack of quality sleep. Now I do not mean get more sleep by staying in bed longer. What I am talking about is getting more QUALITY sleep. This means don’t have coffee, chocolate or wine before bed and do not go to bed with a hundred things on your mind. Take it easy, relax and enjoy your sleep. This is a great way to revitalize yourself.

All in all, a headache can be a symptom of something much more serious so please see a doctor if you suspect something is up. A one off headache is normal but something that happens regularly should be seen to. Remember, a headache can be an indication of something more serious so if in doubt see your doctor.
